John —
With the White House, Congress, and dozens of state legislatures and governor’s offices across the country up for grabs, 2024 looks to be another historically consequential election year.
With so much at stake (and, let’s face it, Donald Trump at the top of the Republican ticket), access to trustworthy, local news has never been more important. But for too many Americans, that access just isn’t possible right now.
Instead, their social media feeds, inboxes, and even local television stations are full of right-wing propaganda, conspiracy theories, and outright lies.
It’s this reality that led us to launch Courier Newsroom, John. Right now, our journalists in 10 2024 battleground states are on the ground debunking right-wing misinformation and providing critical local news coverage to communities without access to trustworthy news.
And in order to keep our journalism accessible to the communities who need it most, none of our stories are locked behind paywalls or subscription fees. All of our news is free to read in the online spaces where right-wing lies spread.
But in order to keep providing this service, we rely on the generous support of donors like you. That’s why we’re reaching out to ask you to participate in our Sponsor A 2024 Battleground Newsroom Project:
John, you’ve been chosen to sponsor our local news teams! Your donation will support newsrooms in four critical battleground states: Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. These will be some of the most competitive 2024 battlegrounds. With presidential candidates bearing down on each of these states while important Senate and House races play out as well, making sure our newsrooms in these states are well-resourced will be critically important this year. Will you chip in $5 before midnight Wednesday to help us reach our $15,000 end-of-month fundraising goal and keep up our work in these states? |
Donald Trump won Pennsylvania and Michigan in 2016 before Joe Biden flipped them blue in 2020. They’ll be hotly contested at the presidential level once again this November, while Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) also faces re-election and Michigan is set to elect a new senator as well following Debbie Stabenow’s (D-MI) retirement.
Florida and Virginia will also feature important Senate races that could decide control of the chamber, as both Rick Scott (R-FL) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) face re-election.
Ensuring our newsrooms in each of these states have the resources they need to hire journalists and report on the stories that matter will be critically important this year. And with the 2024 cycle already ramping up, there’s no time to waste.
Thank you for your support!
