John,
The expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) being debated in Congress right now would increase the CTC for 80% of low-income families who do not currently receive the full credit. It would offer much needed income to about 16 million children in families struggling to meet basic needs and would lift 400,000 children out of poverty immediately, rising to 500,000 above the poverty line in 2025.
While this new version of the expanded Child Tax Credit is not perfect―still leaving out families with no earnings―it is our best opportunity to address child poverty at a time when the right wing is attempting to cut critical programs from nutrition assistance to housing assistance.
And the expanded CTC is expected to get a vote in the House this week!

Read Deborah’s email below to learn more about how the right wing is using anti-immigrant xenophobic attacks to try to deny the tax credit to children born in the United States to immigrant parents―who are entitled to this economic benefit like all other American children.
The CTC improvements in the bill heading for the House floor this week would give struggling families more money for food, for rent, and for their heating bills. We’re keeping pressure on Congress to act!

John,
The Child Tax Credit expansion being considered by Congress right now is our best opportunity to address child poverty at a time when the right wing is otherwise attempting to cut critical programs such as nutrition and housing assistance for low-income families. And, it’s expected to get a vote in the House this coming week!
We’ve already sent tens of thousands of messages to Congress this month telling them to expand the Child Tax Credit so that a larger credit reaches millions more children. And this bill does just that, offering much needed income to about 16 million children in families struggling to meet basic needs.1
Rush a donation today to keep the pressure on Congress to vote to expand the Child Tax Credit this week!

Members of the right wing are attacking the expanded Child Tax Credit, attempting to take the CTC away from children with Social Security numbers in mixed status families―using xenophobic anti-immigrant attacks to deny children of immigrant parent taxpayers an economic benefit they are entitled to.
This is yet another attack on immigrants and their families. Immigrants should not be pawns in right-wing political games.
Rush a donation today to fight back against right-wing attempts to stop the expanded Child Tax Credit and keep the pressure on Congress to ensure the tax credit does more to help millions of low-income children and families.

In the one year that the fully expanded Child Tax Credit was in effect, most low-income families spent their CTC on basic necessities like food, utilities, and rent or mortgage payments, as well as education expenses―and families need that help now.
Thank you for demanding Congress act,
