FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #49 Dear Friends/Amigos, Part of my job as your Congresswoman is meeting with local elected officials to see how I can better serve you in Washington. Last week, I met with local leaders from Key Biscayne to discuss my work in securing funding for critical storm resiliency projects and other important infrastructure in District 27. I am also pushing for critical legislative priorities in Washington that matter to you, including my immigration overhaul legislation, the Dignity Act, and my letter requesting an investigation into potential antisemitism at the United Nations. Once again, it is an honor to serve you in Congress. Let me know how I can better serve you by calling my office at (202) 225-3931 with your opinion. Sincerely/Atentamente, María Elvira Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) EXPOSING ANTI-ISRAELI BIAS It has been more than 100 days since Hamas terrorists breached Israeli territory and brutally murdered hundreds of civilians and injured thousands more. Israeli women were subjected to horrific crimes, including sexual assault used as a weapon of war. UN Women, the branch of the United Nations that focuses on gender equality and women's empowerment, is normally very quick to condemn violence against women. However, condemnation against the violence Israeli women were subjected to did not come from UN Women for more than 50 days. Even worse, the statement was not only late, but tepid and lackluster. This delayed response is unacceptable, and merits accountability. For this reason, my colleague Rep. Josh Gottheimer (NJ) and I sent a letter to the UN Secretary General to demand a full investigation into UN Women's response. Israel deserves compassion in the face of war crimes just like any other nation, and this double standard cannot stand. To read the full text of my letter to the UN, click here. AMERICA NEEDS ACTION NOW ON IMMIGRATION. THE DIGNITY ACT IS OUR ONLY PATH FORWARD. As the Senate continues to stumble on immigration deliberations, it is clear my Dignity Act stands as America's only chance to reform our broken immigration system once and for all. A growing group of my colleagues in the House of Representatives seems to think so as well! I am pleased to announce that the Dignity Act has now received the support of more than 30 legislators in the People's House across political parties. As I wrote in a recent op-ed for Newsweek, the Republican-led H.R. 2 will never get passed into law. On the other side, the Democrats are pushing for policy changes that also reflect unwillingness to compromise. My legislation is hard-fought, bipartisan, and will actively secure our border, ending the current crisis as we know it. Read more about my Dignity Act's progress in Congress here. KEEPING FLORIDA'S COASTS RESILIENT Key Biscayne is one of District 27's most beautiful coastal communities, and I am proud to call its residents my constituents. Coastal resiliency efforts are top of mind for my office, and we are working hard to secure funding for these important infrastructure projects. Last week, I joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local leaders in Key Biscayne to celebrate the launch of the new critical flooding study I secured funding for last year as part of the Miami-Dade Coastal Storm Risk Management Plan. I also mentioned my National Coordination on Adaptation and Resilience for Security (NCARS) Act, which would consolidate federal government efforts towards disaster mitigation and preparedness. Check out more about my visit to Key Biscayne here. CASEWORK TESTIMONIALS! My office is one of the best in Congress and is always happy to help our constituents with federal casework.
