Dear MoveOn member,
The attacks against MoveOn are escalating. Bill Barr—Donald Trump's former attorney general—just published an outrageous op-ed in The Wall Street Journal baselessly accusing MoveOn of engaging in an unlawful, Russian-style criminal conspiracy against American democracy.1
WHAT?!?!
Barr is upset that MoveOn has been organizing to expose a plot by No Labels, a billionaire-backed dark-money political group, that would reinstall Trump in the White House.
If Barr thinks he can intimidate us, he's dead wrong.
MoveOn will not back down. We will not succumb to his scare tactics. We will not be silenced.
But, John, we need to be honest: MoveOn's 2024 budget did not account for a potential legal fight with a billionaire-backed organization that could cost us a substantial amount. As we enter a critical election year, we cannot afford to pull a cent away from our campaign to defeat Trump and stop his fascist plans.
Will you donate $5 to help MoveOn prepare to fight the baseless, politically motivated allegations against us and keep up the fight for as long as it takes so we can defend ourselves and still have the funds to continue our work to defeat Trump and his fascist plans for America this November?
No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
Across the country, billionaires and corporations abuse the legal system to drag their critics into prolonged, hyperexpensive legal battles until the critics are forced to cease their opposition.
The goal is not obtaining the truth. The goal is not seeking justice.
Instead, the goal is to exhaust, intimidate, and harass opponents into silence—and to force critics who are speaking truth to power to drain their financial resources in defending themselves against baseless suits.
And that's where the big problem lies.
MoveOn's 2024 budget did not account for surprise legal costs. These costs could be astronomical, and the legal proceedings could take years, but we cannot allow that to distract us in an election year when MoveOn must go all-in to defeat Trump and stop his fascist plans in their tracks.
It's clear MoveOn's work to sound the alarm about No Labels' dangerous plan is working. Why else would Trump's former attorney general pen a desperate op-ed in one of the nation's biggest papers, attacking MoveOn?
Donate $5 a month to help MoveOn have the financial resources to fight back against these right-wing legal attacks and to defeat the MAGA fascists this November.
No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
Thankfully, MoveOn is not alone in the fight against No Labels.
Earlier this week, End Citizens United and Accountable.US—advocacy groups that take on special interests and dark money—filed complaints with the Federal Election Commission and the Internal Revenue Service, accusing No Labels of breaking campaign finance and tax laws.2
Unlike the Democratic and Republican parties, No Labels refuses to disclose all of its donors and is accepting unlimited sums of money from billionaire fat cats, who we've learned include Harlan Crow—the collector of Nazi memorabilia and funder of Clarence Thomas's extravagant lifestyle—Fox News' owner Rupert Murdoch, and billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, a major Trump backer.3,4
MoveOn is in good company. But we cannot let up on the gas. No Labels is a very serious threat, in part because of the eye-popping $70 million they plan to spend that would reinstall Trump in the Oval Office.
And while No Labels' request for the Justice Department to investigate MoveOn for criminal conspiracy is laughable, we still have to prepare to defend ourselves if we need to. And legal bills are no laughing matter.
Will you start an urgent $5-a-month donation today to help MoveOn have the resources to fight back against these allegations without diverting funds from our critical election work?
No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? The MAGA movement's book bans have forced teachers and librarians across the country to remove books from their shelves and censor what young people can learn. MoveOn is fighting back, including by filling a "Banned Bookmobile" with books that the far right has banned and driving it to key cities and towns to raise the visibility of book bans, hand out banned books for free, and bring people together to stop censorship. To keep up the fight against book bans and the MAGA politicians who support them, we need your help.
Will you start a monthly gift to power and sustain MoveOn's critical work?
No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
