Though he consistently polled as high as 15-20 percent, the Democratic National Committee refused to hold any debates or other primary election functions, essentially anointing Biden as the party’s nominee. Kennedy eventually announced that he would be running for president as an independent. A Trump-Kennedy ticket has long intrigued political pundits due to the possibility of cross appeal. While Kennedy has been referred to as an “anti-vaxxer” and a “conspiracy theorist” by many in the Democrat establishment and corporate press, his campaign has garnered support from a number of prominent liberals, including former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. It remains to be seen whether Kennedy would have interest in accepting the position, as he has previously said he would not.
