GLAAD announces nominees for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

Last week, we released the nominations for our 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards (GMAs). The GMAs are the most visible celebration of our success to honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues, and this year’s nominations are as diverse and inclusive as ever with 310 nominees across 33 categories.

Despite the LGBTQ community facing attacks by false narratives and misinformation, this year’s nominees powerfully reflect the realities of the full spectrum of LGBTQ existence today, in our communities and around the globe.

Nominees at this year’s ceremonies include All of Us Strangers, Bottoms, The Color Purple, Despierta America, Fellow Travelers, Heartstopper, Kokomo City, The Last of Us, Our Flag Means Death, Red, White and Royal Blue, Rustin, Sin Huellas, and Yellowjackets just to name a few.

GLAAD brings LGBTQ issues into focus at World Economic Forum in Davos

This week, GLAAD attended The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. This conference convenes annually for leaders from government, business, and civil society to address the state of the world and discuss priorities for the year ahead. GLAAD’s mission at WEF is to include and make LGBTQ people and issues a priority at every level of business and global economies. GLAAD’s resources help world leaders and business chiefs navigate how to take action for the LGBTQ community, approach inclusion in authentic and impactful ways, and understand that LGBTQ inclusion is both good for businesses and their bottom lines. GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis sat down with Tania Bryer to discuss this important work.

GLAAD's Social Media Safety Program gets conversion therapy content banned

As outlined in the most recent Social Media Safety Index (SMSI), LGBTQ people are exposed to harmful content in part due to inadequate protections and protocols. Thanks to GLAAD's advocacy work promoting best practices around LGBTQ-related content, several prominent social media companies have updated their policies to explicitly ban the endorsement or promotion of conversion therapy. While much work is left to do, guidelines like this help make social media safer for LGBTQ people.
