Americans are in dire need of relief.
|
There is no question we need a dramatic response to the devastating economic impacts of this unprecedented crisis. Congress is working through the weekend to come up with a bi-partisan solution to help provide immediate relief to families, distressed communities, businesses, and American workers.
They need to act quickly — without causing any further damage to Americans’ health and safety. We can’t alleviate one crisis by contributing to another. And now, more than ever, we need to be listening to strong science.
Taxpayers, many of whom are now struggling financially, have the right to expect responsible behavior in exchange for bailouts.
Take action right away, and tell Congress: Don’t fund private businesses only to let them create more damages for the public in the form of climate change.
Because as the government acts quickly to make investments in our future, we need to ensure we’re building a better one. Here’s what’s at risk:
- The airline industry is reportedly requesting $50 billion, which is three times what they received after September 11th. We absolutely must require that in order to access those funds, airlines take action to protect us and cut greenhouse gas emissions from domestic flights by 25% by 2035 and 50% by 2050.
- And the Trump administration has stated they’re looking to get $3 billion to boost America’s oil reserves. Before the dirty energy industry gets any funding, the clean energy industry — solar, wind, and more — must get equal funding.
- And we need to ensure that this relief package in absolutely no way rolls back any existing environmental safeguards.
And a vote could come any second — so before it’s too late, make sure your Members of Congress know where you stand.
Thank you for standing with us,
