The Justice Department recently announced that they’re suing Texas and Governor Greg Abbott — again.
Governor Abbot and Republicans in Texas are continuing to politicize our border. This time, they’re passing and signing legislation that allows police anywhere in the state to arrest migrants and give judges the authority to order them to leave the country.
Let’s be clear — this is blatantly unconstitutional.
Migrants have the right to seek asylum at our border, regardless of what Gov. Abbot thinks the law should be.
But he along with Texas Republicans have made it perfectly clear that they are willing to use undocumented immigrants as pawns to score political points and raise their national profiles.
Friend, their blatant disregard for the law and the human rights of migrants makes them unfit to lead this state.
Our immigrant communities want dignity and respect, but Governor Abbot and Texas Republicans have proven that they’re incapable of providing anything close to the level of leadership that migrants deserve.
