Supporting Abbott on Our Texas Border

President Joe Biden's Administration has failed in its duty to uphold the compact between the federal government and individual states in securing our border. Texas Governor Abbott made that clear in a statement this week criticizing the Administration’s obstruction of border enforcement by Texas officials for political reasons. His leadership on this critical national security issue has galvanized a coalition of states including Florida, Oklahoma, Virginia, and 22 others, standing in solidarity with Texas. These states recognize the havoc caused by open borders and support Texas' actions to confront what can only be described as an anti-American agenda by the Biden Administration.

ImagePresident Biden has issued a record 535 executive actions related to immigration since he took office, yet the crisis at the border has only worsened. The staggering 6.7 million illegal crossings and 'gotaways' is not just a statistic; it's a testament to his failure to secure our border and protect American citizens. His Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) refusal to enforce existing immigration laws is a blatant abdication of responsibility, creating our simultaneous border, drug, and crime crises and failing Texans and Americans alike.

I, along with Congressman Roger Williams and 19 other Members of the Texas Congressional delegation, expressed our concerns to Attorney General Merrick Garland in support of Governor Abbott. We are urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to reconsider its legal action against the State of Texas regarding Senate Bill 4. This bill, signed by Governor Abbott, is crucial in granting Texas the authority to arrest individuals who illegally cross the border from Mexico.

It is unjust to penalize Texas for stepping up when the federal government has stepped back. The Justice Department's claim challenging SB4 as unconstitutional ignores the reality that Texas is aligning with the Constitution and federal law. Texas is duty-bound to protect its citizens and must be empowered to act accordingly. I stand firmly with Governor Abbott.

Uplifting Men & Women Who Have Served

On Thursday, I attended the Mighty Oaks Warrior Banquet at the Walker County Fairgrounds in Huntsville, Texas. This event, vital for honoring our veterans, celebrates their service and supports their transition to civilian life. The banquet provided a platform for community members to show their gratitude and commitment to those who have served our nation, which was a wonderful experience to participate in and witness.

ImageOur veterans deserve recognition and support as they transition to civilian life. Events like the Warrior Banquet and the work of organizations like the Mighty Oaks Foundation play a key role in this process. As a community and a nation, we have a responsibility to support our veterans. We must ensure they receive the opportunities and recognition they have earned through their service.

Let’s continue to welcome them home with honor and provide the support they need in their new life.

Addressing Water Challenges

On Friday, I met with Trinity County Judge Danny Martin and the Trinity River Authority to discuss water quality and delivery in their region. In Texas, ensuring a clean, abundant water supply stands as a top priority.

ImageOur discussion was focused on continuing to improve water treatment and distribution which is vital to Trinity County's health and well-being.
I commend Judge Martin for his exceptional leadership. His efforts in tackling these complex issues head-on are invaluable to Trinity County. Collaborating with local officials and agencies like the Trinity River Authority is key to our success. I will advocate for policies and resources that support our water management efforts. Together, we can ensure TX-17 thrives with reliable water resources.
