President Biden has issued a record 535 executive actions related to immigration since he took office, yet the crisis at the border has only worsened. The staggering 6.7 million illegal crossings and 'gotaways' is not just a statistic; it's a testament to his failure to secure our border and protect American citizens. His Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) refusal to enforce existing immigration laws is a blatant abdication of responsibility, creating our simultaneous border, drug, and crime crises and failing Texans and Americans alike.
I, along with Congressman Roger Williams and 19 other Members of the Texas Congressional delegation, expressed our concerns to Attorney General Merrick Garland in support of Governor Abbott. We are urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to reconsider its legal action against the State of Texas regarding Senate Bill 4. This bill, signed by Governor Abbott, is crucial in granting Texas the authority to arrest individuals who illegally cross the border from Mexico.
It is unjust to penalize Texas for stepping up when the federal government has stepped back. The Justice Department's claim challenging SB4 as unconstitutional ignores the reality that Texas is aligning with the Constitution and federal law. Texas is duty-bound to protect its citizens and must be empowered to act accordingly. I stand firmly with Governor Abbott. |
