Are Customers Lying to Your Chatbot? Automated customer service systems that use tools such as online forms, chatbots, and other digital interfaces have become increasingly common across a wide range of industries. These tools offer many benefits to both companies and their customers — but new research suggests they can also come at a cost: Through two simple experiments, researchers found that people are more than twice as likely to lie when interacting with a digital system than when talking to a human. This is because one of the main psychological forces that encourages us to be honest is an intrinsic desire to protect our reputations, and interacting with a machine fundamentally poses less of a reputational risk than talking with a real human. The good news is, the researchers also found that customers who are more likely to cheat will often choose to use a digital (rather than human) communication system, giving companies an avenue to identify users who are more likely to cheat. Of course, there’s no eliminating digital dishonesty. But with a better understanding of the psychology that makes people more or less likely to lie, organizations can build systems that discourage fraud, identify likely cases of cheating, and proactively nudge people to be more honest.

WorkElon Musk's AI startup is reportedly looking to raise up to $6 billion Turns out Parag Agrawal, who was briefly CEO of Twitter before Elon Musk took over the social media platform, has reportedly raised about $30 million for an AI startup of his own. The company is reportedly building software for developers of large-language models (LLMs), which power chatbots. Meanwhile OpenAI chairman Bret Taylor—once the co-CEO of Salesforce and the chairman of the board of Twitter—is close to finalizing new investment, led by VC firm Sequoia Capital, which would value his AI company at $1 billion, Bloomberg reported Thursday, Jan. 25. WorkWorkVoters in Colorado Case Lay Out Their Argument to Block Trump From Ballot The central issue in the case is the meaning of a clause in Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution that was added in the wake of the Civil War. That language prohibits from holding office those “who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States,” have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.” WorkWorkWorkWorries in Europe Over the White House Move to Delay Gas Terminals Over the last two years, an enormous surge in liquefied gas exports from the United States helped Europe largely replace flows of natural gas from Russia, which had been Europe’s mainstay supplier of the fuel. According to Kpler, a research firm, U.S. gas exports to Europe more than doubled from 2021 to 2022, to about 52 million metric tons, and then increased modestly in 2023. These shipments have “been key in stopping Russia from forcing Europe down on its knees with using energy as a geopolitical weapon,” Mr. Persson said. WorkWorkWorkKenya high court rules against plan to deploy hundreds of police to Haiti Kenya’s interests in leading the mission remain unclear. Observers have speculated that it is part of the current administration’s attempts to build the east African nation’s international profile, while others see its involvement as a proxy for its western ally, the US. Kenya also stands to make some financial gain from the mission, to which the US has pledged $100m (£79m) in intelligence, logistical and medical support. WorkFight over border intensifies as Texas governor pledges more razor wire The use of razor wire is part of Abbott’s publicly funded Operation Lone Star program, a joint effort between the Texas department of public safety and the Texas military department that began in 2021 to curb irregular migration. It coincided with more people crossing into the US because they were unable to claim asylum at an official crossing point or by appointment. Meanwhile, tense talks continue in Washington over legislation to tighten border restrictions. WorkThousands across Austria take part in protests against far right Sellner and Krah are regular guests at Kubitschek’s Institute for State Policy thinktank in Schnellroda, Saxony-Anhalt, which is under observation by German authorities on suspicion of far-right extremism. Kubitschek is viewed as a figurehead of the so-called Neuen Rechten or New Right in Germany, advising far-right groups, and is seen as a political mentor to the identitarian movement. WorkNBA Rivals Week: Debating Heat-Knicks, Embiid-Jokic, LeBron-Steph and more Lopez: It\'ll go deeper than just Wembanyama vs. Holmgren and turn into a full-fledged Spurs-Thunder rivalry. With Gilgeous-Alexander playing at an MVP-type level, there\'s no reason to think he falls off and the Thunder go with him. If San Antonio can build around Wembanyama and put a team around him that contends, the Spurs and Thunder could find themselves as rivals for years to come with plenty of playoff series to go along with it. WorkWorkKaplan's buzz: Latest on the NHL in Utah and a look at the goalie market Anaheim GM Pat Verbeek has held firm on a high asking price for John Gibson. It seems Calgary is navigating the Jacob Markstrom situation delicately. He could be available, but management is only approaching him about his no movement clause if it has serious offers. Jake Allen and Kaapo Kahkonen might be depth options. With the scarcity, you can see why so many teams are curious if Marc-Andre Fleury in Minnesota will be open to a trade. WorkJurgen Klopp has announced he's leaving Liverpool. Now what? The last member of the group who made Liverpool great again is on his way out. Here\'s hoping he and Liverpool supporters can put the fear of the future to one side and focus on making his final months at Anfield as successful and thrilling a ride as possible. Because, as Eckhart Tolle writes in \"The Power of Now,\" you can\'t control the past and you can\'t control the future. You can only control the present. WorkWorkJadeveon Clowney's reinvention propels the Ravens So he never amounted to Lawrence Taylor 2.0. That\'s just fine, he figures.
