In response to an upcoming Supreme Court case that will decide whether Trump is eligible to be listed on the 2024 presidential ballot in states like Colorado and Maine, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to argue that U.S. Presidents should have complete immunity, even going as far to say, “even events that ‘cross the line’ must fall under total immunity.”
As we work on repairing the damage Trump did — not just to our Capitol but to the spirit of our great nation — establishing a principle that a corrupt president is immune from accountability is the last thing we should be doing right now.
The lies, distrust, and division he promoted for years led to a deadly insurrection and the first-ever indictments of an American president.
And despite his crimes, Donald Trump has made it clear that he isn’t going away. He will continue to lie, cheat, and weasel his way out of trouble as long as we continue to absolve him of his actions.
He says that he believes in total, complete presidential immunity. That’s what he wants, and who knows the lengths to which he will go to make it a reality.
So, we must do everything we can to stop Trump.
I have stood on the frontlines of this fight for many years. And I will continue to do so, no matter how many attacks and lies they throw my way.
As we get closer to our March 5 primary — when my name will appear on the same ballot as Trump’s as he seeks the GOP presidential nomination — I can only expect that the attacks will get worse.
