Traveling Across Wisconsin's First District to Hear from You
My priority is to be available and accessible to you. This week, I held listening sessions in Rock, Racine, and Kenosha Counties. Hearing your concerns directly is important to me. In each meeting, we discussed an array of topics ranging from how the cost of living remains high, the importance of protecting Social Security and Medicare, and the need to secure our borders.
I am working to secure our borders. In 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) encountered 3.2 million migrants at the border - more than half the population of Wisconsin. In December, there were 302,000 migrant encounters at the U.S. border, the highest single month ever recorded. That’s more than the populations of Kenosha, Racine, Janesville, and Beloit combined.
In Congress, I’m helping lead efforts to pass the Secure the Border Act to strengthen border patrol, end catch-and-release, stop exploitation of parole authority, and reinstate the remain in Mexico policy.
I strongly support Social Security and Medicare. In fact, I am working hard to protect these programs that workers have earned by restoring fiscal responsibility to Washington while fully funding benefits for these vital programs.
I helped get the Fiscal Responsibility Act signed into law. This bill finally made some progress on controlling spending in Washington, and importantly, it did so while protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Veterans’ health care.
I’m working to bring down government spending. Over the course of last year, deficit spending increased by $320 billion. Inflation has increased 17% over three years, driving up costs for families.
I supported the H.R. 3746, which implemented reasonable, responsible, and sensible reforms that saved taxpayers $2.1 trillion, capped federal spending, and protected Social Security, Medicare, and veteran programs. This legislation was signed into law.
