John, during
Monday’s debate I was asked which person has most shaped my worldview. The
answer is easy: my three school-aged kids.

Now, while I won’t be choosing a favorite amongst them, they all keep me
squarely focused on the future.
When I fight for affordable housing, I think of crunching the numbers with
my oldest son, Luke, who was worried about attending college in California
because of the high cost of housing.
When I hold Big Oil accountable, I think of Paul, who had a sign on his
door that read “Zero emissions 2030 or do not enter.”
When I fight for capping child care costs at 7% of a family’s income, I
think of my daughter Betsy, whose preschool cost me more than college
tuition would have.
Luke, Paul, and Betsy all make me a better representative, and they’re
what inspire me to fight even on the longest, toughest of days.
