John,
At its core, Social Security promises stability and dignity in retirement, a safeguard against poverty for the disabled, and a lifeline for families who have lost a breadwinner.
This means that for many Americans, Social Security is their sole source of income, but despite its fundamental role in our society, nearly half of all Americans are approaching retirement without adequate savings.
The stark reality is that many seniors and disabled individuals are barely scraping by, facing difficult choices between essentials like food, medicine, and housing. While efforts to protect Social Security have been predominantly defensive, we must focus on proactive efforts to expand and improve it.
Thankfully, we already have a straightforward and fair solution: make the wealthy pay their fair share into the system.
Urge President Biden and Congress to champion the cause of American retirees and future generations by expanding Social Security now.
The success of Social Security is undeniable. It has lifted generations out of poverty and provided financial security in retirement.
Since high-income earners only contribute to Social Security up to a certain annual limit, leading to a disproportionate burden on lower and middle-income earners, removing or adjusting this cap would generate substantial revenue while making the program more equitable and sustainable.
That’s why the expansion of Social Security is not just a matter of increasing monthly checks. It is about ensuring that the program evolves to meet the changing needs of our society – extending its solvency, enhancing benefits for the most vulnerable, and adjusting cost-of-living adjustments to reflect the real expenses faced by retirees.
We must do everything in our power to take a step towards a future where retirement is marked by dignity, security, and peace of mind.
Tell President Biden and Congress to expand Social Security benefits -- not just to preserve what we have, but to build a stronger, more secure foundation for future generations.
Thank you for fighting to protect and expand Social Security.
