Dear John,

In a world where not every crisis makes the headlines, people forced to flee their homes endure in silence.

Among the 114 million displaced globally, a staggering new record, many stories remain unheard. But our teams on the ground are committed to putting them in the spotlight – like the thousands of families in the Horn of Africa escaping severe floods after battling relentless drought, or the brave volunteer doctors in Sudan, striving to heal their own amid armed conflict, or the talented Rohingya photographers telling the stories of a stateless minority from the world’s largest refugee settlement.

Each individual story is just one piece of the global displacement crisis. In 2023, we saw the highest number of emergencies in years.

Despite this our emergency responses in critically hit countries were severely underfunded in 2023. This underfunding means that countless refugees and displaced families were not able to access the basic support and protection they deserve.

At UNHCR, we stand by them — but we need your help.

While these crises might fade from the headlines and the big screen, our commitment, like yours, remains unwavering. We are dedicated to staying and continuing our support. Thanks for being an integral part of this journey!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Monia Hassan
