In the middle of the debate, my Republican opponent Steve Garvey refused to say whether he’d support Donald Trump — saying “When the time comes…I’ll make my choice.”
That’s an unacceptable answer. So I asked him plainly: What more do you need to denounce Donald Trump?
For Steve Garvey, it wasn’t enough that Donald Trump undermined our alliance with NATO.
Or that he threw our country’s national security under the bus to buddy up with Vladimir Putin.
Or that he dismantled Roe v. Wade and stripped millions of women of their reproductive freedom.
Or that he incited the January 6 insurrection and attempted to overthrow the government.
That’s where Steve Garvey and I differ.
I was censured by MAGA Republicans for standing up to the corrupt president. And I would do it again.
I’m not afraid to say that Donald Trump is a danger to our country. So is Mitch McConnell. And Jim Jordan. And the rest of his MAGA enablers who’ve worked tirelessly to hide the truth.
The people of California deserve to know whether Steve Garvey believes that a President who incited a violent attack on the Capitol should be trusted with power again. If he can’t answer the most basic of questions, he cannot be trusted to represent Californians in the Senate.
