The Filing Deadline is Only Two Weeks Away!

We are only TWO WEEKS away from the filing deadline to be on the primary election ballot for the all-important 2024 elections. It is crucial for the continued growth of our party that Republicans in all 92 counties make the time to file for precinct committeeman and state delegate. We continue to emphasize the importance of these roles because they are the grassroots foundation of our party. And when it comes to party building, there is nothing more important than our grassroots. 

We encourage all Republicans who are interested in building our party to new levels of success to file for these positions as soon as possible. A strong party requires precinct committeemen and state delegates that lead us at the local level. 

Time is of the essence, so please don't wait! Be sure to file your CAN-37 form before it's too late. Together, we will continue to build our party.

Governor Eric Holcomb Visited Ontario this week to pursue partnerships in emerging technologies. He also met with Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further bolster trade between our state and Ontario.

What he’s saying: “From the earliest days of settlement and exchange between us, we’ve blossomed into a robust economic partnership that saw more than $23 billion of goods traded. This MOU between us only reaffirms our steadfast commitment to fostering even deeper bonds for the prosperity and well-being of our citizens.”, Gov. Holcomb said in a news release about the meeting.

What else happened this week? Gov. Holcomb joined in the ribbon cutting at the Indoor Track & Field inside the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion.

This year, Republican lawmakers are focused on improving reading proficiency throughout the state. 

What to know and why it's important:

• Many experts agree that it is crucial to a student’s future success that they can read by the end of grade 3. Students who are not proficient readers by this time are likely to experience ongoing struggles throughout their education.

• Indiana’s reading proficiency scores have dropped by almost 10% over the last decade, from 91.4% in 2013 to 81.9% in 2023.

Some Proposed Legislative Solutions as of 1/26 

• SB 1: Reading Skills
  • Science of Reading Instruction.
  • Early Detection & Remediation.
  • LAST RESORT retaining those students who failed IREAD-3 for the third time.

• SB 6: Reading Proficiency

  • Companion bill to SB 1.

  • Requires the department of education to develop a method to identify students in grade 4 through 8 who did not pass the determinant evaluation of reading skills approved by the state board and develop guidance for schools regarding how to support those students at risk of not being proficient in reading.

Governor Eric Holcomb announced a $800 million investment from Meta for a new data center in Jeffersonville. 

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch spoke at #MarchForLIfe rally at Indiana Statehouse.

Secretary Diego Morales met with Counsel-General of Japan, Jun Yanagi at Secretary of States Office. 

Attorney General Todd Rokita celebrated with Unclaimed Property Staff for record setting year in returning $81 million to everyday Hoosiers. 

Treasurer Daniel Elliot celebrated school choice and all the hard work going into supporting Hoosier education.  

Comptroller Elise Nieshalla met with the Indiana Federation of Republican Women during their Statehouse tour.   

Senator Mike Braun showed his support for SB181, writing to legislative leadership.  

Senator Todd Young supported US Soccer's bid for the 2027 FIFA's Women's World Cup. 

Congressman Rudy Yakym visited Kropf Industries, a Hoosier manufacturer that produces park model RV's. 

Congressman Jim Banks showed his support for life.

Congressman Jim Baird  congratulated the newly appointed inaugural dean of Purdue's Daniels School of Business.

Congresswoman Victoria Spartz participated as judge at National Speech and Debate district tournament. 

Congressman Greg Pence visited with Richmond mayor Ron Oler.

Congressman Larry Bucshon celebrated National School Choice week and promoting the effort to empower parents. 

Congresswoman Erin Houchin's visited Graham Creek Elementary to discuss literacy and STEM education.
