John, get this:
A police officer in Staten Island was caught by his own body camera planting drugs in the car of a group of young men.
In 2018, NYPD officers Kyle Erickson and Elmer Pastran stopped cars for minor traffic violations, then claimed the vehicles smelled like marijuana. Their body camera footage showed both officers extensively searching the cars for several minutes, turning up with nothing.
Erickson’s body camera then switched off and back on just as he discovers a marijuana cigarette that did not appear to be there when Pastran first searched the car.
Just two months later, in footage just now discovered by The Intercept, the officers pulled the same trick again, aggressively arresting another man. The officers again searched the car and the man’s jacket, turning up with nothing. In the body camera video, it’s then seen that Erikson plants marijuana in the car’s cup holder and, hiding from the view of his partner’s body camera, the man’s jacket.
These officers still have a job with the NYPD and have faced no repercussions for their crimes. I’m furious.
These officers should not be in uniform on our streets, and that’s why Real Justice is calling for their immediate termination.
Demand Erikson and Pastran are fired
The NYPD continues to get away with traumatizing communities of color in New York City.
The lack of repercussion for these officers is a testament to the lengths the NYPD and Mayor Bill de Blasio will go to protect bad cops. It’s time we take back our streets.
Erikson and Pastran are examples of the bad policing that continues to run rampant throughout New York City. We need them off our streets, and we need to send a message to the NYPD that we will not stand for them terrorizing our communities.
Thank you for taking action.
