A little later today, my team will submit my end-of-year fundraising report for 2023 to the State Board of Elections, and our totals for 2023 will be public for anyone who wants to see them. (You may remember this as that thing I spent the entire last week of December panicking about.)
But I wanted to make sure you had a little preview of the numbers we’ll be posting, before anyone else gets to see them. And to be honest? I couldn’t be prouder of the report we filed. All said and done, we: |
- Raised
more than $330,000 total across 2023—that’s the most any Democrat has raised from individual donors for this race in an off-year since 2011, and the most any non-incumbent Democrat has raised for Treasurer in an off-year this century.
- Received
more than 1,700 individual contributions, which is more than all three of our candidates for Treasurer last cycle raised in 2019—combined.
- And of all that, 91.7% of those contributions came from donors right here in North Carolina, just like you, representing 69 out of our 100 counties, from Andrews to Ahoskie and everywhere inbetween.
|
All of that is proof to the world of what we’ve known all along—that this movement we’re building is the strongest campaign a Democrat has built for Treasurer in over a decade, that this is a campaign by and for North Carolinians, and that we’re doing exactly what we need to in order to fight and win in November. It’s grassroots power of the sort that we haven't seen for a Treasurer candidate in a long time.
In particular, I’m so proud of our 91.7% of in-state donations—this isn’t a campaign that needs the backing of out-of-state, big-money donors just to keep its head above water. This campaign is built off of neighbors making an investment in the future of our state, and that’s exactly what I’d hoped we’d be.
So to all our grassroots donors, thank you for believing in me and thank you for stepping up. Together, we can take back NC, invest in our communities, and build opportunity for all our people, no matter their ZIP code, their background, or their circumstances.
We just have a little further to go now to get through our primary, and then it’ll be onward to November. And if you haven’t yet stepped up to give to our campaign, I’m asking you to please do so now—it’s crunch time, and we need every hand on deck over the next six weeks. |

Wesley Harris is a North Carolina native and the only PhD economist in the General Assembly. First elected in 2018, he has been fighting hard for the residents of southern Mecklenburg County and working to make our state the best place in the country to live, work, and start a family. Now, Wesley is running for Treasurer to make an investment in our state's greatest asset, its people. Together, Wesley believes that we can unlock the potential of our people and build opportunity for every North Carolinian.
