Dear NRDC Activist,
The Willow Project, a massive oil and gas operation that ConocoPhillips has begun building in the wild, western Arctic, just got worse — much worse.
My colleagues at NRDC call it "climate sabotage." That's because Willow will pump a staggering half billion barrels of oil over the next 30 years, derailing the progress we're now making toward a clean energy future.
If that's not bad enough, it now appears that ConocoPhillips is using Willow as a launching pad to tear open even more wild Arctic lands to oil and gas exploration.
We need your help to protect the Arctic from being turned into a climate-wrecking oil field.
Join me and sign NRDC's letter now calling on the Biden administration to cancel the Willow Project and ConocoPhillips' plans to expand oil and gas exploration on irreplaceable Arctic wildlands.
After you've signed the letter, consider making a donation so that NRDC can keep battling — both in and out of court — to save the wild Arctic and our planet's climate. All gifts will be matched to go twice as far for our environment.
Last month, ConocoPhillips received approval from the Bureau of Land Management to explore for more oil and gas on hundreds of thousands of acres of unspoiled Arctic tundra right next to the Willow Project.
If the project is not canceled, convoys of seismic "thumper" trucks will soon go thundering across the Arctic — endangering polar bears, chewing up sensitive permafrost, and carving tracks so large they may be visible all the way from outer space.
Tell President Biden to put the climate crisis — and the need for clean energy — at the center of all decisions about energy development on our public lands and oceans.
Add your name now to NRDC's letter urging the Biden administration to cancel Willow and plans to expand oil and gas exploration in the Arctic.
Your actions today come on the heels of decades of calls, letters, and actions by NRDC supporters and others like you who have demanded Arctic protection.
Today, as our planet reels from rapidly worsening climate change, the stakes are even higher.
Thank you for once again joining me to defend one of our planet's greatest wonders.
Sincerely,
Robert Redford
NRDC Trustee
