New Hampshire GOP wins two House seats
in special elections
Washington Examiner | Jack Birle
January 24, 2024
Republicans in New Hampshire have a stronger majority in the state House of
Representatives after winning two special elections on the same night as
the presidential primary.
Republican Sean Durkin defeated Democrat Cathleen Fountain in the race for
the Coos County District 1 seat, maintaining a GOP seat, while Republican
Michael Murphy defeated Democrat Edith Tucker for the Coos County District
6 seat, flipping a previously Democratic seat.
The two key wins helped the GOP expand its majority to 200-195 over
Democrats, with three independents and two vacancies. New Hampshire House
Republicans celebrated the wins in a post on X and argued that voters in
the county "spoke loud and clear" with the elections of two Republicans.

Which states could get new congressional maps in 2024?
An updating tracker of developments in midcycle redistricting
ABC News | Geoffrey Skelley, Nathaniel Rakich, & Leah Askarinam
January 24, 2024
After the 2020 census, each state redrew its congressional district lines
(if it had more than one seat and its state legislative districts. 538
closely tracked how redistricting played out across the country ahead of
the 2022 midterm elections. So everything is done and dusted, right?
Not so fast, my friend. More than a half-dozen states face the prospect of
having to go through the redistricting process again, mostly due to federal
and/or state litigation over racial or partisan gerrymandering concerns.
Both Democrats and Republicans have the opportunity to flip seats in
districts drawn more favorably than they were last cycle. For example,
Democrats appear poised to pick up at least one seat in Alabama and could
theoretically get more favorable maps in Louisiana and Georgia.
Republicans, meanwhile, could benefit from more favorable 2024 maps in
North Carolina and New Mexico.

WG Economy: Discussion Points: Biden Re-Election Standing And Comparisons
to Obama
WG Economy | David Winston
January 19, 2024
As reported by Axios, the Biden campaign believes that by the November
election, "the economy will be so good voters can't ignore it. Voter
confidence, the hope is, will catch up with the encouraging macro signs."
This assumption was described as one of Democrats' "four articles of
faiths" as multiple polls show President Biden in trouble. The Biden
campaign says the President has plenty of time to improve his weak
standing, drawing comparisons with President Obama's challenging
re-election numbers at this point in 2012.
