UK Medical body tells members not to report illegal abortions to police (http://)
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) in the UK has issued “guidance” to its members directing them not to report illegal late-term abortions to the police.

They’re justifying the move by claiming it’s deeply traumatising to women when police are informed that these abortions have taken place. The guidance from the RCOG extends to situations where the baby’s safety is in imminent danger and where the baby could possibly be saved if action were taken.

The latest directive leaves the RCOG open to the charge of displaying total contempt for the law and for the right-to-life of innocent defenceless unborn babies who have their lives ended in late-term abortions, where it’s extremely likely that they’ll experience excruciating pain as their lives come to an end.

By issuing the latest directive, the RCOG is also ignoring the welfare of women, many of whom are coerced into having abortions against their will. Adopting such an extreme and dismissive approach towards contacting the police when something manifestly illegal has taken place potentially puts the lives of women at risk, as well as their unborn babies. Concealing the truth only serves the interests of those who coerce women into abortion and want to keep the evidence hidden.

The RCOG cannot stand over its latest move and continue to claim that it operates with integrity and is committed to delivering the highest standards of patient care. Sadly, it’s just one more piece of proof that groups like the RCOG talk an awful lot about “healthcare” but instead practice ideology and politics when it comes to the issue of abortion.
Donnelly sets sights on Cavan and Clonmel hospitals to provide abortions this year (http://)
When queried in November 2023 on which maternity hospitals did not offer abortions, the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said that the HSE would ‘continue to engage’ with maternity hospitals to ‘enable the provision of services by year end 2023.’ At the end of 2023, there were just two of 19 maternity hospitals left which were not providing abortions – Cavan and Clonmel.

The Cavan-based Anglo-Celt newspaper reported on 21 January 2024 that as of its publication, abortion was not yet being provided in Cavan hospital. The HSE has renewed its commitment that the “remaining two hospitals, Cavan and Clonmel, will begin service provision in 2024.”

Although at a political level, the Three Year Review’s legislative changes have moved slowly through the Oireachtas health committee, within the health system there has already been an Implementation Group set up which has aggressively been involved in spreading abortion throughout Irish hospitals and encouraging GPs to begin performing abortions.

The chairperson of the review has already stated she had no hesitation in recommendation that prospective hires into the Irish health system should be overlooked unless they are prepared to provide abortions. Whilst doctors have a right to exercise freedom of conscience and not become involved in the abortion process, this does not extend to protecting their employment and promotion prospects.

Even amongst doctors who do not consider themselves pro-life, many are unprepared to be personally involved in performing abortions and are unhappy with this new policy which amounts to effective discrimination.

Some of the attendees at last week’s annual March for Life in Washington DC
As hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers gathered in Washington DC last weekend for the annual March for Life, new research released by the Brookings Institute found that 55% of Gen Z and millennial voters ranked abortion among their top three political issues.

According to another recent poll conducted by YouGov on behalf of Students for Life of America (SFLA), 65% of voters aged 18 to 42 support significant limits on abortion, and 54% believe human rights should start in the womb. The poll shows a 10% shift in a pro-life direction (in favour of abortion restrictions) over an identical poll carried out just over a year ago by the same polling company.

Commenting on the latest results, Kristan Hawkins, the president of SFLA, said the poll served to get a better understanding of what Gen Z and millennial voters support in terms of abortion legislation.

She remarked: “In light of ballot initiatives, misinformation on protections in place for women’s lives, and radical abortion policies pushed by those who don’t care about what happens to mothers and their preborn children, we wanted to explore just what the Youth Vote - Gen Z and millennials - are thinking.”

She said the poll results clearly indicate that a large percentage of young voters are “open to conversation and willing to consider pro-life policies.”

It’s a really important time to approach your local TDs and Senators and urge them to reintroduce some humanity into the debate on abortion. The Three-Year Review, a seriously flawed process which produced a one-sided and extreme report, will be considered by politicians in the autumn. It’s important that we take action now.

We have produced a quick and easy Virtual Postcard for you to sign, which will automatically send an email to your local TDs. Use the button below to navigate into your county on our website and find your constituency.

It’s also important to have meetings with your TDs. These can be as simple as dropping into your local TD’s advice clinic to outline your concerns. Click below to register to lobby your local TDs. Don’t worry – we’ll help you every step of the way with advice on making the appointment to points you might consider raising.

We are heartened by the number of people actively involved and interested in meeting their politicians to express their views. The People Before Profit Bill which regrettably passed at 2nd stage of the Dáil on 31st May must also be countered. Even the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, has said this Bill goes far beyond the recommendations of the Three-Year Review – which are already extreme in their own right.

It is crucial to engage with our politicians and remind them not to overlook the referendum promises. We need to fight to ensure our abortion policy is aimed at reducing the abortion rate.

Please take a moment to get involved in the

Thank you!

Do you have pro-life material which could be historically relevant? (http://)
We are putting out a call for anyone in possession of any documents, photographs, correspondence, etc. relevant to the Irish pro-life movement throughout the decades. We are particularly keen to receive anything in your possession related to periods such as the 1983 referendum. A comprehensive history of the pro-life movement is yet to be written, but the historians of the future will need primary sources. We are asking for people to get in touch with the Pro Life Campaign (mailto:[email protected]) if they possess such material (no matter how old or dusty!) to ensure it is preserved now and not lost to the ages.
