Dear Friend,
As we move through an election year that could define the future of democracy in the United States, we at Immigration Equality are motivated by a powerful sense of urgency. Even as President Biden’s first term comes to an end, we still have an important window of opportunity to secure individual victories and systemic protections for LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants. But we must act immediately.
Right now, Congress is on the verge of passing the most severe changes to U.S. immigration law that I have seen in my 18 years working exclusively in this space. Key Democrats and the White House are caving in to Republican demands to gut the asylum system—putting LGBTQ refugees in mortal danger—in exchange for votes on a foreign aid package.
Every day, we’re calling on policymakers to do the right thing, and mobilizing our allies to dial up the pressure. With your support, we can direct more resources to winning this fight—a matter of life and death for LGBTQ asylum seekers fleeing persecution.
And as always, even while we advocate on the national stage, we’re representing hundreds of individual people every day. With the potential of a second Trump Presidency looming, we need to help as many LGBTQ and HIV-positive refugees as quickly as we can. We are all-in. Won’t you join us?
Thank you for your support,
Aaron C. Morris, Executive Director
