This month: how organizers are "turning Texas teal," plus our 2024 pop culture watchlist

Turning Texas Teal with Brianna Brown

With both the Iowa and New Hampshire presidential primaries behind us, mainstream media has anxious eyes on federal elections. But there’s an equally important story to be told this year about what we can accomplish locally when we act powerfully, together.

In late 2023, TOA staff joined the New York premiere of TEXAS, USA, a feature documentary that follows Co-Executive Director Brianna Brown of Texas Organizing Project and other Texans as they design and execute the largest-ever investment in Black voter turnout—reaching two-thirds (1.4 million) of the Black voters in the state.

We caught up with Brianna, a member of our Beyond Democracy cohort, to talk about how they’re shifting the narrative about what’s possible in Texas through the combined power of storytelling and organizing. Read our Q&A and stream the film today to learn more about successful digital and civic engagement strategies for 2024.
