This week last year was a tragic one in California after we experienced
three deadly mass shootings across the communities of Monterey Park, Half
Moon Bay, and Goshen. The gun violence epidemic has only continued to
plague our state and the nation since then, but Attorney General Rob Bonta
is working to stop it.
Last September, Rob launched a first-of-its-kind Office of Gun Violence
Prevention to focus on this pervasive issue, and this Monday, they held
their inaugural roundtable discussion on gun violence with community
members in Sacramento.
At this first in a series of discussions, Rob joined local leaders of
nonprofits, churches, and community groups to discuss the best approaches
to prevent gun violence and save lives.
And yesterday, oral arguments began in Miller v. Bonta, Rob’s lawsuit to
defend California’s assault weapons ban: a time-tested, essential,
lifesaving law that has kept weapons of war off the streets of our state
for decades. A critical law that the gun lobby is trying to get rid of.
This issue is of the utmost importance to Rob, and as your AG, he’s
keeping up the fight to save lives and create a world where our
communities and children don’t have to live in fear of becoming the next
victim of gun violence.
