Dear John,
In January 2022, Congress let the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) expire, ending much-needed assistance for millions of families and low-income people. These payments had slashed child poverty and helped families to afford food, housing, and other necessities. Since then, many of the households that benefitted the most have been forced back into significant financial hardship.
Tell Congress: Expand the Child Tax Credit!
Now, there’s a chance to undo some of that damage. The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee overwhelming voted to approve a bipartisan tax package that would partially expand the Child Tax Credit again. This could benefit as many as 16 million children in low-income households and lift around 400,000 children out of poverty.
The bill will be up for a vote on the House floor as soon as next week, and it’s crucial we keep up the momentum. Please join us in sending a message to your representatives today. In peace, Cole McEldowney Global Policy Coordinator for Economic and Climate Justice |
