Last week, our Democrat-led Virginia Senate defeated a handful of Republican bills that tried to weaken voting rights here in the Commonwealth.

VA Democrats blocked bills to end same-day registration on Election Day, shorten the state’s early voting period, and limit absentee voting time.

If Democrats had failed to hold on to our state Senate majority and hadn’t managed to flip the House of Delegates last November? These dangerous bills would have made it through committee. Our elections have direct consequences on our access to the ballot box.

And these efforts by Republicans to restrict our right to vote isn’t just happening in Virginia, it’s taking place all over the country. In battleground states where we have vulnerable Senate Democrats running for re-election, the GOP is putting voting rights on the chopping block.

If we’re going to continue to protect voting rights here in Virginia and nationwide, we need to make sure we help Democrats win their highly competitive races this November so we can protect and expand our Senate majority.
