With filing season opening in a few days, the Minnesota Department of Revenue has important reminders about protecting your Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) and your Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN).

*Watch out for phishing attempts*

Be alert if you get emails asking you to verify your credentials. These are likely phishing attempts and may cause irreparable harm to you and your business.

*Make sure your PTIN is renewed and entered correctly*

Update your software control files for this year and any past years you still file.

*Make sure your PTIN is valid*

Invalid PTINs can delay processing for client returns. Beginning this year, we will assess penalties if you file returns with invalid PTINs.
