The Sun, which won a Pulitzer Prize in 2020 for its high-quality local reporting, is now under the control of David D. Smith — the chairman of Sinclair and a close ally of Donald Trump.

Smith wasn't joking, John. For the last decade, Sinclair's rise has been a part of a long-term plan to replace local news with mass-produced right-wing propaganda.

Part of Smith's plan even included meeting with Trump in the White House to pitch him on new programs.

Sinclair is now the second largest owner of local television stations across the country, and its acquisition of The Baltimore Sun is another step in its campaign to wipe out local newsrooms and replace them with right-wing misinformation machines.
