Last night, Governor Whitmer delivered her State of the State Address and had an important message for us all: “We will deliver real change for people right now and for Michiganders generations from now.”

Democrats are delivering solutions that are impacting real people’s day-to-day lives and are helping our state and working families create a lasting legacy. Governor Whitmer outlined one of her priorities that has always been important to me: Uplifting and fixing our caregiving system.

According to the AARP, family members provide $522 billion in uncompensated care every year. I know from experience that caregiving also carries an emotional toll.

Governor Whitmer announced her plan for a Caring for MI Family Tax Credit, which could save Michigan families thousands of dollars a year by allowing Michiganders to write off caregiving expenses. This tax credit will support families who are providing their family members with caregiving services, easing the burden they face while providing this invaluable time. 

Proposals like this one might not be big headline news, but these are the types of solutions that will impact the day-to-day lives of so many Michigan families. Michigan Democrats are working hard to deliver these everyday solutions, which is why we need to make sure we hold our majority in the state house this November. 

In MI-06, we have some of the state’s most competitive state house districts. We need to make sure we turn out voters across MI-06 so that when they show up to the polls, they’re casting their vote for Democrats up and down the ballot.
