I hope you and your family are doing well, especially during the brutally cold winter weather here in the Hudson Valley. Stay safe and warm, and keep up to date on local weather conditions to make sure you are prepared for snow storms and high winds.

All around NY-18

My family enjoyed the snowy weather at home earlier this month! My sons, Theo and Cameron, had a blast sledding and shoveling with me and Rebecca. 

I had a great meeting with the Mayors of Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Beacon, and Middletown as we work together on our joint Hudson Valley priorities for 2024!

Last month, my son Theo and I participated in the Wreaths Across America program. As a veteran, participating in this ceremony was deeply personal. As a community, we remember the Fallen, honor those who served and their families, and teach the next generation the value of freedom.

Ending Sports Blackouts

Although my favorite football team, the New York Giants, did not make it to the NFL playoffs, I’m still tuning in to watch the games. But like far too many households in New York and across the country, I couldn’t tune in to the Chiefs-Dolphins game the other night without spending even more money on streaming services. 

I am fed up with the greed of the NFL Commissioner and the sports broadcasting companies charging loyal fans extra to watch their teams play. People who pay their TV bills should be able to watch the game on NBC without paying for an extra add-on service. It’s ridiculous. 

If you’re tired of these sports blackouts caused by the greed of sports commissioners and mega-corporation broadcasters, join me in calling for these unfair, deceptive practices to end.

Congressman Pat Ryan has announced the January schedule for his Constituent Advocacy Resources Empowerment Services (C.A.R.E.S.) Van. The van, staffed by highly-trained caseworkers from the Congressman’s team, provides direct assistance to constituents across NY-18 – ensuring people can access everything from passports to Social Security to flood recovery assistance right in their community.

“For too long, big corporations have pumped toxic chemicals into our air and water, making billions in profits at the expense of American families’ health and safety,” Ryan, a member of the Congressional PFAS Task Force, said in a statement. “I refuse to let your kids or mine be exposed to these toxins any longer. I’m proud to lead the most comprehensive PFAS cleanup plan in history, and will continue to push relentlessly until it becomes law.”

“Safer, more accessible and sustainable transportation is transformative for entire communities – from getting kids to school safely, to helping small businesses grow, to creating jobs,” said Congressman Pat Ryan. “I fought relentlessly to secure these funds, and am now proud to announce safer streets are on the way for Warwick and Goshen families.” 

“This is vision and execution, and this is exactly what the community needs,” said Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18), who was present for the ribbon-cutting at the 55,000-square-foot building and presented the village officials and the developers with a congressional award for their work and dedication on behalf of the village constituents.

Ryan, D-Gardiner, will share his thoughts on efforts to grow the area’s small business economy and the importance of empowering entrepreneurs, according to the Chamber.

Ryan is also set to discuss issues of local, state and national interest.

“Today, we are recognizing people who don’t often-ever want that recognition, but who do incredibly important things, such as saving lives, in our communities,” said Ryan to a packed room of recipients and guests, who he also reminded about the sad state of affairs plaguing this country. “Anything I can do to shed light onto the heroic things being done in our community and communities around the country, I want to do; we desperately, desperately need that right now.”
