Fifty-one years ago, on January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court issued its landmark decision in Roe v. Wade, protecting the constitutional right to reproductive health choices. Americans had the constitutional right to abortion for nearly 50 years. Then, almost two years ago, a very different Supreme Court overturned Roe. Now, abortion is nearly completely banned in 14 states, with 7 others imposing harsh restrictions.

The good news: We can fight back and win–we’ve been witnessing this across the country since the Court ripped away our constitutional right. Since the overturn of Roe, abortion rights have won in every election! Abortion rights and our reproductive freedoms are undefeated!

Abortion is a winning issue and the vast majority of the country votes in favor of abortion as a Constitutional right, and a human right. This year, an election year, we could see abortion on the ballot in at least 11 more states.

Democratic candidates must expand abortion access, champion platforms that support bodily autonomy, and vigorously advocate for abortion rights! And in every state where it's possible to further enshrine our rights, we need to take action to make it possible. The people are on our side, and it's time we get it done.
