Team Slotkin has a bit of an unofficial motto: low ego, no drama, just get stuff done. (OK, sometimes we use a different word for “stuff.”)

When most people think about politics and the House of Representatives, those aren’t exactly the words that come to mind.

And it’s true. There are a lot of egos in politics (trust me on that!), and a ton of drama and that can prevent us from focusing on the work and getting stuff done.

It helps that I didn’t start my career as a politician, or with any aspiration to run for office. I spent decades in public service, from the CIA to the White House to the Pentagon. I served three tours overseas alongside our military. And especially when you’re serving in a warzone, it doesn’t matter what political party you come from. What matters is whether you’re focused on the mission at hand.

I’ve long believed that public service is the greatest love letter you can send to your country. When 9/11 happened, I started working in national security because I believed it was the best way I could serve my country. Years later, I ran for office for the very same reason.

There’s a lot of cynicism about politics, and it’s easy to see why. But not everyone thinks the feuds and nastiness of Washington is the way it should be. I’ll always be a public servant and hold on to my motto: low ego, no drama, mission first.

This is why I am running to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate. But I can’t get there without your help. Your willingness to help chip in to elect a Senator who believes in public service would mean the world to us.
