Decades before the pivotal decision on Roe v. Wade, anti-choice movements dismantled protective measures around safe and legal abortion. The impact has been dire for marginalized groups—women of color, those in poverty, LGBTQIA+ individuals, survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and others already grappling with barriers to healthcare access. Our rights faced constraints even before this landmark ruling was overturned.
Things are so bad now that the United Nations Human Rights Committee has declared an urgent human rights crisis in the U.S.––calling on our nation to provide access to abortion free from discrimination and to end the criminalization of abortion at all levels of government.
We’re working for reproductive justice on multiple fronts:
• Empowering voters through awareness of abortion limitations • Countering suppressive tactics aimed at impeding choice • Ensuring progressive voter turnout to endorse abortion rights referendums and feminist candidates at every level of governance.
Although we did have pivotal wins in Ohio, Kentucky and Virginia last year, there’s so much more to do in 2024. We need to urgently rally elected officials at federal, state, and local levels to champion women's rights and lives. We demand powerful action to get women access to safe abortion care and critical reproductive healthcare services—no matter what state they live in.
We need you with us to turn strong public support for reproductive freedom into a decisive feminist victory in 2024, John.
