John,
Oidhche Bhlas Burns to all our
supporters within Scotland, and the rest of the United
Kingdom.
But for those of you celebrating
overseas, you may find it more difficult, expensive, or impossible, to
find the Haggis to go with your neeps and tatties.
Because of new red tape from the
Government’s shambolic Brexit deal, exporters of the tasty treat are
facing added costs and admin and for many smaller producers, it’s just
not worth the effort - so they have stopped exporting to the European
Union.
God knows what Rabbie would make of
that!
But all is not lost. We want people
abroad to enjoy unfettered access to all our produce including
haggis.
Here comes the technical
bit:
A veterinary (SPS) agreement with
our largest market could reduce costs, admin and delays for Scottish
and other UK producers. It’s one of 114 recommendations made by the cross-party UK Trade and
Business Commission last year.
With political
heavyweights already backing some of these proposals, and with a review
of the Brexit deal scheduled for 2026, we must keep the pressure
up.
Will you send the proposals to your
MP?
