I wanted to touch base with a brief note about the coronavirus and the precautions Mainers can and should be taking to keep our families safe.
I know it’s an uncertain time for many. You may be scared, stressed, or anxious about current events. That is completely normal. What we can’t afford to be is uninformed. That’s why I’ve compiled some of the most important information from the state and federal government to share with you.

Please, I encourage you to forward this email to anyone who you think it may help. Stay safe and remember: we’re in this together.

Community Updates:

Social distancing: This remains the best strategy to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and flatten the curve to prevent our health care system from becoming overwhelmed. Social distancing means avoiding large gatherings and maintaining at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others when out in public.

Supporting small businesses: Governor Mills has prohibited all gatherings of 10 or more people and placed restrictions on restaurants, bars and other places of recreation to curb the spread of COVID-19. However, you can still support small businesses in your communities by ordering takeout and purchasing gift cards.

Working from home: It’s recommended that all non-essential businesses that are able to implement work from home policies.

Grocery shopping: Note that many grocery chains in Maine have shortened their hours. All Hannaford and Shaw’s locations have implemented special hours for seniors and other at-risk populations to shop in a lower risk environment.

School closings: Many Maine schools are closed to curb the spread of the virus. Be sure to check in with your local school district for updated information on distance learning and other services.
