[1]Justice Democrats
John,
We are now in the midst of a crisis more severe than anything our country
has experienced in generations. What happens in the coming months could
determine the course of the next decade in America.
Will we unify as a country and put people first, mobilizing our economy
and society to provide life-saving equipment, and ensuring that working
families can survive through the coming economic crisis? Or will we let
massive corporations price-gouge medical care, lay off millions to save
their bottom lines, and demand taxpayer bailouts? The leadership of
Justice Democrats is needed now more than ever -- those already in
Congress, and those running to join them there.
Right now these are uncertain times for so many families. This is a moment
for our nation and our movement to come together, to support one another
and provide a vision for how our country can move through this crisis. All
of our Justice Democrat candidates with upcoming elections -- Jamaal
Bowman, Kara Eastman, Morgan Harper, Cori Bush, Betsy Sweet, Georgette
Gómez, and Alex Morse -- are working to support mutual aid efforts and
vulnerable families in their districts.

I also want to make sure you are keeping yourself and your loved ones
safe. Our country desperately needs to “flatten the curve” -- reduce the
pace of transmission through social distancing so that our healthcare
system is better able to cope. Justice Democrats staff are all working
from home, travel and in-person meetings cancelled, for the foreseeable
future. But keeping a physical distance doesn’t mean we need to be
isolated! Reach out and connect with your friends, family, and neighbors.
We will get through this crisis together.
Through this all, our team has re-doubled our efforts to bring out the
best in the Democratic Party. We are working with every one of our
campaigns to shift gears, with fully digital campaigning, building online
communities of supporters, engaging potential voters, and making sure that
everyone can cast their vote this year. We are elevating voices like AOC,
Ayanna Pressley and Pramila Jayapal in Congress, pushing Democratic Party
leadership to do what the American people demand and what experts say is
needed:
* Mass industrial mobilization with the Defense Production Act to
produce life-saving equipment;
* Universal paid sick leave;
* Free healthcare for everyone affected by the crisis;
* A universal basic income, including expanded unemployment benefits;
* A national moratorium on evictions, foreclosures, and utility
shut-offs;
* Halting all debt collection and negative credit reporting, and the
cancellation of all student debt; and,
* Heavy restrictions on any bailout money given to corporations to
ensure that it benefits workers and consumers, not hedge fund
billionaires.
We need to scale up our response at the scale of Franklin Delano
Roosevelt’s response to the Great Depression, who said:
“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of
those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have
too little.”
Together -- our supporters all across the country, our staff and
volunteers, our leaders in Congress and on the campaign trail -- Justice
Democrats is ready to meet the challenges of this crisis. We will continue
to fight for those who have too little. And I could not be more proud to
be fighting alongside you in this moment.
In solidarity,
Alexandra
