Two years ago yesterday marked the anniversary of the trucks arriving in Ottawa to kick off a landmark moment in Canadian history: The Freedom Convoy.

But yesterday wasn’t just an anniversary.



In what can only be described as a beautiful coincidence, the Federal Court also released a narrative-shattering decision.



On Tuesday, Justice Richard Mosley issued a decision finding that Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act to quash the peaceful Freedom Convoy protest was unreasonable and unconstitutional.



For those who don’t recall, the Emergencies Act gives the government special, extreme powers intended to deal with times of crisis like a war.



It is what the government used to freeze bank accounts of people who were involved in or donated to the Freedom Convoy, and to crack down on even the most peaceful of protesters.



In a time where so many covid related lawsuits are delayed, tossed out, or unreasonable decisions are issued in defense of the state; this decision is a breath of fresh air!



We shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves in celebrating this victory. The Trudeau government has already announced they will be appealing this decision.



But it is a relief to see a federal judge with a modicum of common sense, and this decision could set a precedent that could help other ongoing covid-related lawsuits, like my constitutional challenge against the travel mandates.



Many Conservative MPs have been celebrating this decision; Michelle Rempel, Andrew Scheer, Pierre Poilievre, to name a few.



These opportunists make me sick.



While I am happy to see these establishment politicians finally join the right side of history, it leaves me wondering: Where were they two years ago?



Where were they while I, and so many PPC candidates, supporters and volunteers stood out in the cold streets of Ottawa, shoulder to shoulder with our brave truckers, demanding our rights and freedoms back?



They were sitting in the warm halls of Parliament!



CPC apologists like to pin this all on Erin O’Toole’s leadership. They say their party is different now under Pierre Poilievre.



But to me, it says more about the character of Pierre Poilievre, and the rest of the CPC MPs, that they chose to stay silent and to continue to follow O’Toole during the dark days of covid.



If Pierre was such a courageous leader, he would have spoken up earlier and led the rest of the CPC caucus out of the House of Commons to stand with the Freedom Convoy in defiance of O’Toole and Trudeau.



But Pierre is not a courageous leader, he’s an opportunist.



The only party that consistently stood against covid mandates, the only party that proudly stood with the Freedom Convoy, the only party that you can trust to stand up for the people is the PPC.
