[ [link removed] ]Ayanna Pressley for Congress
This week marks the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which made abortion
care a constitutional right. This anniversary falls in the midst of
unprecedented Republican attacks on our reproductive freedom. And since
Roe was overturned a year and a half ago, Republicans have stopped at
nothing to attack our bodily autonomy.
Just last week, Republicans advanced two bills that mislead pregnant
students seeking abortion care and divert federal funding towards sham,
anti-abortion counseling centers known as “crisis pregnancy centers.” And
they have the audacity to claim that these bills would help pregnant
people.
But we won’t fall for the okey-doke.
This is just another tired tactic straight from their extremist playbook,
and just another step in their politically violent, thinly-veiled campaign
to enact a national abortion ban — a forced birth mandate.
We cannot and will not stand by while they use pregnant students as their
pawns. This is an urgent moment that requires immediate action: We must
advance critical legislation like the Women's Health Protection Act and
Abortion Justice Act to codify Roe v. Wade and make abortion care readily
available to all who seek it — without shame, stigma, or systemic
barriers.

House Republicans intentionally designed their bills to mislead, with
biased and inaccurate information, and to shame those who seek abortion
care.
There is a
clear contrast between our agenda and the Republicans’. As the Chair of
the Abortion Rights and Access Task Force under our Pro-Choice Caucus, let
me again set the record straight: abortion care is health care and a
fundamental human right.
While we're fighting in Congress to actually protect pregnant people and
abortion patients, Republicans are spreading dangerous lies and
misinformation that would put them at risk. Their record is clear:
Republicans have consistently undermined access to contraception, defunded
on-campus childcare, and limited access to reproductive healthcare for
those who need it most.
[ [link removed] ]If Republicans truly cared about pregnant students, healthcare, or the
fundamental freedom to make decisions about your own body, they would
bring our bills, the Women’s Health Protection Act and Abortion Justice
Act, to the House floor to overturn the Dobbs decision. Anything less is a
disgrace. Add your name if you agree.
