Jack, even in the tsunami of media layoffs that have been announced recently, this stands apart as especially gruesome:
Staffers at Sports Illustrated were notified on Friday of massive layoffs—some immediately, others in short time, with potential for the entire staff to be gone in three months.
This bleak news is just the latest entry in a long line of dire layoffs, furloughs, and other cuts that have devastated American media. Print, online, startups, legacy outlets, hard news, opinion—nothing is safe right now, and that includes Daily Kos.

Daily Kos is the country's largest progressive, independent news outlet and, right now, we are struggling just like everyone else. We had a remarkable run in the 2010s, even as other outlets shrank around us, because we diversified our revenue streams. We weren't reliant just on ads, which Big Tech has totally consumed, but had progressive campaigns paying to be connected to our readers and, most importantly, we had readers who wanted to directly support our work. Today, two of our three revenue streams are falling badly behind and we are relying on donations from readers like you more than ever.

Daily Kos is $86,446 away from our monthly fundraising goal. Can you donate $5 right now to close the books on January?
