NY-03 is our first chance to flip a Republican district this year

Indivisibles,

Early voting in the NY-03 special election -- our first chance to flip a red seat blue this cycle -- starts next week, so we wanted to give you a quick update on the race and what we’ve been hearing from folks on the ground:

  1. Many people don’t know there’s an election happening. Based on responses to our phonebanking and early doorknocking, we’re finding a lot of folks haven’t heard about the special election. With early voting starting next Saturday, this makes our GOTV operation even more crucial than we thought.
  2. Redistricting = new voters we need to reach. In the last round of redistricting, a chunk of the old NY-04 district was drawn into NY-03. That includes folks who didn’t vote in 2022 and -- even more important for our targeting -- Dem voters who don’t realize they’re in a new district. We’re doing strategic outreach in this sliver of the district to make sure we’re reaching these key voters who could put us over the top.
  3. This is still an incredibly close race. The latest public poll from Emerson shows the Democratic candidate leading 45% to 42%. That’s an incredibly slim lead -- within the poll’s margin of error -- and 9% of voters remain undecided.

With the race as close as it is and so many people not even knowing an election is happening, we need help to reach out to as many voters as possible. Thankfully, we’ve had a surge of volunteers signing up to phonebank, text, and canvass.

We want to make sure everyone who signed up has the resources they need to get out the vote and that we can run as many shifts as needed to accommodate them all. Subject: Our first chance to flip a red district

Indivisibles,

We’ve got some exciting news: We’ve officially kicked off our rapid response campaign to win the special election in NY-03 and further weaken the GOP’s razor-thin majority.

If you didn’t know there was an election happening, we don’t blame you. Most of the focus is on the presidential race right now, but this special election will have huge implications for control of Congress.

NY-03 has been vacant since George Santos was expelled from the House last year, and the seat will be filled in a special election next month. This is our first chance to flip a Republican district and, if we win, it massively increases our chances of holding on to this swing seat in the November regular election. It also means we would only have to flip four other seats to retake the House.

It sounds simple, but we know we’ve got a tough fight ahead of us. The race is currently rated as a tossup and we’re working with a short timeline -- the election is on February 13 and early voting starts on February 3.

That only gives us a few weeks to mobilize our volunteers and reach tens of thousands of voters. To pull it off, we’re working with our partners in the Battleground NY coalition to deploy our most effective GOTV tactics. That includes peer-to-peer texting, phonebanking, and our ground-breaking Neighbor2Neighbor canvassing program.

Because this is a special election, the funding for this work isn’t in our budget. So to deploy the proven grassroots tactics that’ve fueled wins across the country over the past year, we’ve got to raise about $10,000. If you’re ready to start rebuilding our trifecta and you’re in a position to give, you can click here to pitch in and help us flip NY-03.

If we put in the work, we know we can flip this district -- and that will have an outsized impact far beyond NY-03. It will send shockwaves of electoral dread to the other vulnerable Republicans in NY and across the country, and send a clear signal that voters are showing up to reject MAGA.
