Dear John,

We’re kicking off 2024 stronger than ever! This week, the NYIC held our annual Member Congress—the largest one in our organization’s history! Hundreds of our members came from all over the state and joined us for 3 days in Albany to break bread, strategize and kick off our legislative agenda.

Together, we marched to the Capitol and told Albany legislators we are ready to work with them to build a more inclusive and equitable state that works for each and every one of us—whether we have lived here for 30 days or 30 years.

We are ready to face the challenges ahead of us this year, and we are ready to fight! Elected officials and allies joined us in front of the Million Dollar Staircase to make clear we will NOT rest until:
* All immigrants across New York State are guaranteed a right to counsel during deportation hearings via the passage of the Access to Representation Act ([link removed]) , the first act of its kind in the nation, as well as $150 million in the NYS budget to meet urgent and long-term legal and social services of immigrant families in New York.
* Law enforcement is barred from corroborating with ICE and Border patrol agents with the passage of New York for All ([link removed]) , a crucial law that will protect thousands of families.
* We ensure the safety and protection of immigrant New Yorkers by significantly expanding Language Access ([link removed]) across the state so immigrants are able to receive critical resources, information, and assistance in their chosen language, along with $10 million for its expansion.
* New York families are able to meet their basic needs like food and rent with the help of the Working Families Tax Credit, which combines other tax credits to create a bigger, better one to help all working families who pay taxes, regardless of immigration status.
* New Yorkers who are at risk of or experience homelessness have access to affordable housing through the NYS Housing Access Voucher Program, with $250 million in the State budget for funding.

We’re ready to make our voices heard this legislative session. Join us in our fight!
In power,
