Social Security and Medicare are some of America’s greatest success stories. These essential programs allow folks to retire in dignity, provide a lifeline to the most vulnerable people in our community, and keep families afloat.

Over 1.6 million New Jerseyans depend on Social Security, including more than 140,000 in NJ-11. Over 64 million Americans receive affordable healthcare thanks to their Medicare coverage.

Somehow, despite all of this, extremist Republicans insist that they must be on the chopping block.

Last year, they nearly tanked our global economy by demanding massive spending cuts — including to Social Security and Medicare — in exchange for raising the nation’s debt limit. It was one of the most reckless political stunts we’ve ever seen.

And shortly after being elected Speaker just months ago, Mike Johnson proposed the creation of a “fiscal commission” for these programs — which could lead to drastic cuts to Medicare and Social Security behind closed doors.

We must stand up and remind Republicans that we won’t accept any cuts to Social Security or Medicare — no way, no how.
