John,
Last night’s New Hampshire Primary essentially ended the GOP presidential nominating process. Donald Trump - as long as he’s not behind bars - will be the nominee, and the MAGA movement will push its extreme agenda on all of us as it wrestles for even more power.
But a missed lesson from both Iowa and New Hampshire is how the lack of participation in elections is ceding power to the extremists. If “Did Not Vote” were a candidate, they would win heavily–both in primary and general elections across the country.
Iowa saw a 15% turnout in its caucus. And while there was “record turnout” in New Hampshire, still only 34% of registered voters showed up to the polls. Because of this, MAGA won big.
That’s why it is so important that we make the investments now to register new voters and drive turnout from those who are less likely to vote.
EVERY VOTE COUNTS! This is true across the county and here in Connecticut. With contested races at the Congressional level and for the state legislature, we know seats can be won or lost by just a few votes.
Your CT Dems are building the infrastructure now to make sure we aren’t falling behind this summer and fall when it comes to registering new voters and turning out low-propensity voters.
Will you make a contribution today to invest in this infrastructure and keep us on track? A donation of $50, $25, or even $10 will go a long way in helping us build the foundation for successful voter registration and get out the vote efforts this year.
