As communities in Nevada and across the country feel the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, I wanted to send you an update with the latest information about what’s happening.

I have been hard at work in the Senate fighting for a robust response to this outbreak and the threats that it poses to our families and communities. I have co-sponsored legislation to expand free coronavirus testing so that people in Nevada and across the country can get tested free of charge. I am also calling on Vice President Pence to ensure that we are engaging with Tribal leaders so our Native communities have access to the information and resources they need.

I will keep working to ensure that Congress is doing everything in our power to respond to the coronavirus with the urgency it demands. In the meantime, here are some helpful tips from the CDC about how to help prevent exposure to COVID-19 and protect yourself and others:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting sick.
• Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. Throw used tissues in the trash. Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
• Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks. To clean dirty surfaces, use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
