What President Biden and Congressional Democrats have done for San Francisco
When we elected Joe Biden as our president, we hoped he would take action to strengthen democracy, protect marginalized people, and improve the well-being of everyday people. As the presidential election draws near, it’s time to celebrate the ways that our GOTV efforts and advocacy have made our lives better over the past four years than they were under Trump.
We don’t agree with everything President Biden has done, and he hasn’t brought us everything that we have advocated for, but he has met our expectations and even exceeded them. There is no question that he has delivered for us in his first term.
Biden’s achievements include important infrastructure projects right here in San Francisco. We’re highlighting three projects today that will help SF residents move around while reducing damage to our environment, taken from Rep. Pelosi’s latest newsletter:
We’re compiling more of these, locally as well as statewide and nationwide, and we’ll keep highlighting them as the election continues. We’ll be drawing on our compendium of resources documenting President Biden’s successes.

If Congress does not pass a budget bill or CR
by Friday, March 1, the government will shut down.
House and Senate leadership have negotiated a budget package, which MAGA Republicans in the House are obstructing.

At the 11th hour last Friday, Congress passed a new Continuing Resolution (CR) that kicked the can 43 days down the road, to March 1st. If Congress does not pass another CR or budget bill by then, parts of the government will shut down on March 1st, with the rest shutting down on March 8th.
We continue to demand that our Members of Congress reject any poison pills in upcoming budget negotiations.
In the meantime, debates are still ongoing for critical funding for Ukraine—however, Congressional Republicans are trying to poison the deal by forcing Biden to accept inhumane Trump-era border policies in exchange. We do not accept MAGA hostage-taking of any kind and we ask our Senators to stand firm against this.
Tell your Senators: Say NO to deals with MAGA immigration policies.
Get ready to defeat Trump
Yesterday, in New Hampshire’s Republican primary, Trump won another state’s nomination. Nikki Haley once again came in second. And DeSantis dropped out of the race entirely.
Surprised? You might’ve been expecting a different outcome if you’ve been following the media’s election coverage. Haley, DeSantis, Ramaswamy—every day, another headline about one of them or all three of them.
But Trump has been leading the Republican pack this whole time. He’s their guy and always has been.
Spread the word: It’s going to be Biden vs. Trump in 2024. And feel free to point people to our blog post on what Biden has done for us during his current administration.
Start watching for your ballot in your mailbox two weeks from now
This year is a presidential primary election year—which means the primary election starts in February. You’ll be voting in about two weeks.
Right now, you should check your voter registration to make sure your voter registration is active, your party affiliation is correct, and your address is current.
Then, start reading up on your choices so you’re ready when your ballot arrives in your mail in early February. Check out our Vote page, which you can easily share with friends and family members who are eager to vote in next month’s Democratic primary election.
We’ll be adding more information in the coming weeks to the Vote page on casting your ballot.

This year is going to be a busy time, and we’d love a few more volunteers on board to help with editing our weekly newsletter and publishing ongoing social media posts.
Our newsletter team meets every Tuesday night, and our editor helps us make sure everything looks professional, all the links work, and all the commas are in the right places.
Several members of our team post on various social media websites (Twitter, Mastodon, Instagram, etc.). This is more of an ad-hoc role. We especially would like someone to help us create, schedule, and monitor posts on the Meta Suite (Facebook and Instagram) and Threads. No prior knowledge required—we can train you!

Help get out the vote for Riverside & Orange County Board of Education races
We’ve seen over and over again the importance of Boards of Education in preserving—or destroying—the freedoms of students in their schools. You can help protect students’ freedoms by electing progressive BoE candidates—and you can do that right here in California over the next couple months.
Postcards for Democracy is supporting candidates in three Areas (like districts) for the Orange County Board of Education, as well as a candidate in Riverside County, in order to secure a progressive board majority. Let’s bring attention to their races, which are DECIDED on the March 5th primary election. Don’t let the word “primary” fool you—this race is one and done for the winners on March 5th.
In Riverside County, they are supporting Maliha Williamson.
In Orange County, they are supporting Bea Mendoza for BoE Area 1, Nancy Watkins for Area 3, and David Johnson for Area 4.
Winning these races means protecting the school boards from harmful, bigoted Christian nationalist candidates. In turn this helps the school boards focus on the education and safety of students.
