BIGGS’ VOTE AGAINST CORONAVIRUS FUNDING IS HATE SPEECH
Democratic Candidate Urges Incumbent to Vote for Critical Health/Financial Protections
PHOENIX (March 20, 2020) – Once again, Andy Biggs’ animosity toward the LGBTQ community is being illustrated in his public policy, and it is endangering the lives of all Arizonans. Joan Greene, Democratic candidate for Arizona’s 5th Congressional District (CD5), is urging Biggs to vote for future bipartisan legislation that would provide funding for coronavirus testing, treatment and other urgently needed support for Arizona residents and small businesses.
To date, Biggs has voted no on all coronavirus funding packages. In a radio interview produced by the conservative Christian Group, The Family Research Council (FRC), Biggs explained that he
voted no on the legislation because it included provisions for domestic partnerships, including same-sex relationships. The Southern Poverty Law Center has designated FRC as a hate group.
"Biggs voted against urgently needed funding to fight the coronavirus pandemic and help Arizonans in need because the
legislation provided protections for those in domestic partnerships," said Greene. "What he doesn’t seem to understand is that his hatred is not just impacting LGBTQ Arizonans, but many others like senior citizens who, for many reasons, are in a domestic partnership. His actions and votes have consequences beyond his intended victims."
"He should be representing and protecting all Arizonans, not just those he agrees with politically," Greene added.
