Biden wins the New Hampshire Democratic primary
President Biden wasn't even on the ballot — he refused to formally take part in the contest after New Hampshire state party officials ignored the DNC's directive declaring South Carolina would hold their primary first, effectively ending the Granite State's 100-year stranglehold on that honor — but still easily cruised to victory in a write-in campaign. Biden carried a cool 73% of the vote while some guy named Dean Phillips came in a distant second with about 17%. Self-help author Marianne Williamson, aka the Devil Wears Patchouli, tallied just 4%.

Libs of TikTok creator accused of inspiring school bomb threats named to state library board
Chaya Raichik is a virulent anti-LGBTQ bigot and stochastic terrorist who delights in using her "LibsOfTikTok" account to publicly target LGBTQ community events, LGBTQ teachers, and medical centers that offer gender-affirming care so that her rabid right-wing followers can inundate her victims with death threats, harassment, and hate speech. One of those victims was a librarian at Tulsa's Ellen Ochoa Elementary School, which was hit with multiple bomb threats after one of Raichik's post. So naturally, the Oklahoma State Department of Education, run by fellow bigot and radical right-winger State Superintendent Ryan Walters, made the astonishing decision to appoint Raichik to the state library board despite Raichik not being a) a librarian b) an educator c) a parent or d) a resident of Oklahoma. Given that Walters celebrated her work against "porn" and "woke indoctrination," it's safe to say she's going to be the Book Banning Czar — though it's unclear how much she'll be able to accomplish from her sewer pipe in New York.

A federal court has given the go-ahead for Mexico's massive lawsuit against American gunmakers to proceed, seeking to hold them accountable for the "iron river" of deadly, legally purchased American firearms that floods Latin America and fuels the horrific violence and terror inflicted by the drug cartels. It is a national shame that the Republican Party's refusal to rein in our perverse obsession with firearms causes so much death and chaos in neighboring countries — and that the GOP's response to the refugees fleeing the violence that Republican gun policies create is sadistic cruelty and dehumanizing hatred.

The billionaire tech bozo dutifully went on his mea culpa trip to the Auschwitz death camp in order to quell very legitimate accusations of antisemitism that he rightfully earned for, well, promoting horrifying antisemitic conspiracy theories on Twitter. But Elon immediately made it clear this was nothing but lip service by putting on one of the most offensive displays of Holocaust disrespect since Trump wrote that he had an "amazing" time visiting the site "with all my friends" in the guest book at Yad Vashem. In a post-visit interview, Musk claimed that the Holocaust would NOT have happened if Twitter had been around in the 1930s and '40s (?!?!?!?) and tried to make his point with fake tweets he cooked up of people sharing photos of Nazi attacks on synagogues, supporting Jewish resistance fighters, and pushing back against Holocaust deniers. The claim is ridiculous, insulting, astonishingly ignorant, and exactly what you'd expect from an unimaginably entitled prick struggling to explain away his deeply troubling affinity for neo-Nazi conspiracy theories.

Congressional Republicans rush to crown Trump after New Hampshire victory
The votes hadn't even been fully counted in the Granite State before the GOP's top brass rushed to bow and scrape and kiss the ring of Donald Trump. Their endorsements constitute a full-throated approval of both Trump's conspiracy to steal the 2020 election and his very explicit desire to dismantle our democracy and replace it with a dictatorship of personality. We must disabuse ourselves of the fantasy that there are "moderates" in the Republican Party and focus all our effort on defeating them at every level, in every state, and every county.

A Louisiana teen traveled to the West Bank to learn about his roots. He was shot dead
Tawfic Hafeth Abdel Jabbar, a 17-year-old from Gretna, Louisiana, traveled to the West Bank in May to explore the land where his father came from and learn more about his roots as a Palestinian American. He was shot dead by an Israeli settler and an IDF soldier while going out for a picnic with his friends, according to his father. He is only the latest victim of a rising tide of Israeli settler violence against Palestinian civilians; more than 344 Palestinians, including 88 children, have been killed by security forces and settlers in the West Bank since the Hamas terror attacks on October 7. Despite the reality that the war is raging in a separate territory on the opposite side of the country, the Israeli government has been handing out assault weapons to Israeli settlers in the West Bank in an unmistakable incitement to violence. The killers must be held accountable for the senseless murder of an American citizen.

Colorado pastor accused of pocketing $1.3 million in crypto scheme says "the Lord told us" to do it
Eli Regalado, a former car thief-turned-pastor for an online church (how is that a thing?!), and his wife fleeced their flock of more than a million dollars with a crypto "shitcoin" that turned out to be worthless despite Regalado's sales pitch that God Himself had told him to "take this to my people for a wealth transfer" and that it was a low-risk, high-profit investment. It would appear the Good Lord had other plans in store for his wayward son, like going to jail for securities fraud. Regalado later admitted to his victims that the fraud was real but said that actually God had told him to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a home remodel, a Range Rover, and luxury handbags — and promised that "God is going to work a miracle in the financial sector." Dude, it is not the financial sector you should be worried about right now.

Torture allegations spiked in Israeli jails after Oct. 7, as one group warns jailers seek "revenge"
As the already-high number of Palestinians arrested and imprisoned as "security inmates" skyrocketed in the wake of Hamas' horrific terror attacks on October 7, so did the reports of appalling abuse and torture by Israeli jailors. Released inmate Ramzi Abbasi told NBC News that he witness the guards sodomizing prisoners with batons and that prisoners were regularly stripped naked and piled on top of each other for the guards’ amusement. "Our life became zero. We didn’t mean anything to them. They treated us less than the animals. Beating, abusing, torturing, everything you could imagine." The behavior described eerily echoes the unconscionable treatment of Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers at Abu Ghraib. Ironically enough, these reprehensible abuses are also sponsored by the American taxpayer.

Columbia University scolds students for "unsanctioned" Gaza rally where they were attacked with chemicals
A pro-Palestinian protest group alleges that they were attacked with chemicals of some kind, leaving students with burning eyes, nausea, and chest pain. The group organizing the protest, Students for Justice in Palestine, have identified the substance as an IDF chemical weapon called "skunk," and claimed that their assailants were connected to the Israel Defense Forces. The university first wagged their fingers at the students for having an "unsanctioned protest" before reporters began calling, at which point school officials changed their tune and said that law enforcement was investigating "serious crimes, possibly hate crimes." Given the GOP's breathless obsession with pro-Palestinian protest groups, surely they'll hold a hearing to investigate an attack on their First Amendment rights... Right?
