The newly enacted map more fairly represents Black Louisianans, but it also harms the GOP’s chances at clinging onto their razor-thin House majority — creating another potential congressional district for Democrats to flip. This also happened in Alabama last year, where our partners on the ground won a fairer map that also created a possible red-to-blue flip district!
So what began as a local effort to demand accountability and put an end to racist gerrymandering now has the potential to drastically alter the House majority and national politics with it.
