Hello,

With almost 3,000 farms and some of the most fertile soil in the country, it’s no surprise that agriculture is the number one economic driver in communities throughout Central and Southern Illinois. That’s why I was proud to join colleagues on both sides of the aisle to vote for an extension of the Farm Bill last year.

While I am happy that we were able to sustain vital nutrition programs like SNAP, we owe it to farmers across the country to put aside partisan games and finally pass a bipartisan Farm Bill that prioritizes our communities. In case you need a refresher, every five years the Agriculture Committee drafts legislation for the Farm Bill, but thanks to House Republicans' failed leadership, we haven’t been able to get it done.

Working on both sides of the aisle to make progress for working families, farmers, and veterans is one of my top priorities in Congress, so I will continue to advocate for swift passage of a bipartisan Farm Bill that includes funding for vital programs like SNAP and the Inflation Reduction Act subsidy programs.

But the road ahead won’t be easy. I am up for reelection this year and have two Republican opponents vying to take this seat and impede our progress.

That’s why it’s more important than ever that we work together to protect this seat, keep this district blue, and ensure we can pass a bipartisan Farm Bill that will expand job opportunities, put food on the table for families, and provide our farmers with the resources they deserve.
